Features of Bioplastic

What is Biomass?

Bio and mass combined means "quantitative biological resources"
- Biomass renewable biological resources derived from organic sugar, starch, and agricultural products, forest products, in addition to ingredients such as cellulose, chlorella, spirulina, and microorganisms, including oil weaving whale, animal body and any organism.
- White Bio category are products of photosynthesis plants, refers to the microbial metabolite

Types of Bio plastics

Bio plastics are divided in to biodegradable plastics and biomass plastics.

(1) Biodegradable Plastics

-

Plastic containing 70% or more biomass.

- Problems exists such as competitive price, possible decomposition before expiration date, and weak solidity but is focusing on making it disposable product.

(2) Oxo-Bio degradable Plastics
-

(3) Bio Based Plastics
- Plastics containing certain amount of biomass.

Carbon Neutral : As plants grow, they absorb Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere, hence when decomposed in the environment, they do not increase the amount of CO2.

Carbon Dioxide(CO2) Emission
- Polyethylene (PE) : 1,860g/kg
- Polypropylene(PP) : 1,470g/kg
- Printing paper(신재) : 1,120g/kg
- Paper for newspaper : 826g/kg

Eco-packaging (eco-friendly packages) category

Eco-friendly category is vast. It is normally divided into 4R. Recently, including the concept of Resign (Recyclable + Design), sometimes is divided into 5R, however this is not general.

Environmental Policy
 -1st : Reduce
-2nd : Recycle & Reuse : Mass consumption and disuse
 -3rd : Replacement
   (1) 100% : Biodegradable, Biomass
  (2) a part of material
  Bio-based polymer : Carbon reduction
 -4th : Resign : Add a Design to a waste material

* Among these, some parts of Recycle and Reuse overlaps each other, hence sometimes are classified as one.
