KBMP, Korea Bio-Material Packaging Association (C.E.O. You, Young-Sun)

Packaging business used to be a simple business which the sole purpose was to protect the contents within the packages. But nowadays, it has become a higher value-added business involving design, surroundings, distribution and Information Technology contributing to the preferences of the consumers as well as improving the quality of life.

The packaging business has developed into a whole new business in the developed countries already. The business is now a convergence of distribution, manufacture, service, and Information Technology industries. This business makes up half of the world’s packaging market and is now targeting low-price markets of China and South-East Asia.
Recently, since the rise of social awareness on the environmental problems companies, governments and each household are now trying to reduce waste and Carbon Dioxide production. However, no matter how much we try to reduce the amount of waste, after shopping we face with a huge amount of packaging waste made with plastics and polystyrenes.

We cannot live without packaging bags, but we know that plastic bags destroy the environment. This is why Eco-Packaging made with biomass packaging material, which is harmless to the human body, easily degradable in the nature, reduce the emission of carbon dioxide, and can be re-used, is getting the attention.

Because of this reason, world-wide research to replace the petrol-based plastic into the biomass material is continually taking place. Recently, the paradigm of Eco-Packaging is changing from simple biodegradable plastics into various organic plant bodies, use reduction, recyclable, re-usable, and reduction of Carbon Dioxide emission.

Due to this world-wide trend, the Korean industrial world faces a golden opportunity to compete in the world market by making Eco-Packaging a product.by combining our biomass material technology with the world-class packaging manufacturing technology.

Since the government is using ‘low-carbon green growth’ a national strategy, the base for the development of biomass material Eco-Packaging is already in place.

The biomass plastic material has gone beyond the area of disposable and food packages, to a broader area of water bottles, plastic bottles, mobile phones, cosmetics, automobile internal sheet covers, laptops, copiers, files, plastic films, and agriculture industry, which is rapidly expanding and applied.

Korea Bio Material Packaging Association(KBMP) will try its best to invigorate the bio industry including eco-packaging, biomass plastic and biodegradable plastics to obtain the definition and standards as well as improving the current bio technology to successfully make bio industry be a part of today’s world.
